The commitee we were in was the Environmental Committee which meant that we had to deal with issues such as deforestation and the Conflict between Economic Growth and Preservation of Wilderness Sanctuaries (Amazonia, North Pole...) and Petroleum as a resource: Should we work to conserve it?. All of the topics we voted on got passed. Or resolution consisted on: Literally The conference was fun BTW 1.Encourages countries to find solutions for the waste products' removal problem; 2. Suggests the strengthening of sanctions to countries that do not recycle and use landfills that damage the natural landscape; 3. Expresses its hope for countries to take a step forward in caring for their environment. Environmental Commitee – BGMun The commitee we were in was the Environmental which meant that we had to deal with issues like deforestation…etc. On the topics we voted on, all of them passed and that meant that they went to the general assembly. One of the resolutions that passed was about the conflict between Economic Growth and Preservation of Wilderness Sanctuaries (Amazonia, North Pole...), and the resolution consisted on; • Setting bigger punishment to whoever was caught damaging the environment, • To use the money obtained from the previous resolution to reconstruct the damage. • To set a limit of persons allowed to go in a Wilderness Sanctuarie depending on the size and value of it.
I think that for next year, I should participate a bit more and about the rest, I think I did just fine.
Introduction of issue My committee was the technological committee and the two issues discussed were privacy online and bitcoins, which are a new online currency. Summary of the conference The first day we all went to the opening ceremony which took place in the theatre of the school. They introduced everyone who was taking part in the BGMUN project and also briefly explained what it was about. Also, all the ambassadors (including me) went up to the stage to read their speech, I was a bit nervous. After that, everyone was taken to their committee and there we started with the lobby, in which we could move freely around the room looking for sponsors and signatories for our resolutions. The next day we finished the lobby and we started presenting the resolutions and debating them. On this day we also had a party in the afternoon which was really good fun, everyone danced. The last day we finished debating and those who arrived late to the committee had to dance. Then we had the general assembly, where all the resolutions that passed where presented and voted for. When we were finished with that, there were several awards given out such as the award to the best delegate and the award to the best delegation. There were also awards for those who participated as staff and for the presidents of the committees. For those who didn´t win anything (like me) there were participation diplomas given out also. Resolutions My resolution was only about one topic, online privacy, and it didn´t pass. Only two resolutions passed, one about privacy and the other one about bitcoin. Improvements I think I shouldn´t be nervous when I have to read or say something. Also I should make a longer resolution with more details because the one I made was a bit too short, and other resolutions were very complex and complete.
1) Summary of conference The first day we had to prepare everything and nobody knew what to do. We had to look for a group of students which made up the country we were assigned to take care of, which took much longer than expected because some were late and other were wandering around the school. The first part of the conference was meant to start at 10 am, but it was delayed until nearly 10:45 am. The only thing we did was tell people were they had to sit and give out water bottles. Then we had to go to our committees and we stood there for approximately an hour doing nothing. We went to have lunch and the staffs had to stay giving out food in the cafeteria. Our countries had to get back before 3 pm but my country didn’t care and they were late. The rest of the afternoon was okay. The second day consisted of running around the school sending out notes, which at the beginning were important and in the afternoon people were sending very stupid notes. We were allowed to go out for lunch. Also, a lot of people from bachillerato joined as staffs to miss class and they sat around all day. At night there was a party which was okay. The last day we sat in our committees all morning because notes were prohibited and later the votation and the closing ceremony took place. I think the first and second days were a mess, and on the third day I didn’t do much. Students seemed to have to prepare everything and the teachers who were responsible for the event didn’t seem to do much. 2)Improvements Even though they took a year to prepare it in my opinion it was kind of messy. But I guess it was okay as it was the first time doing this. What I disliked was that us staffs had to sit in the committees when we didn’t have to do anything, and that the classes were so far away from each other that when we had to send a note to another committee we had to walk a lot. The teachers didn’t do much in my opinion, but the students did a nice job. Overall it was okay and it was enjoyable. I would like be an staff again next year.
1) Introduction of the issue/ committee We were the Technological committee and the principal debate was privacy on the internet, although the in last moments of the conference we debated about bit coin. 2) Summary of the conference The first day it was kind of an introduction to what we were about to do. Later on, the ambassadors of the different countries gave a speech. After everyone had introduced themselves, each committee went to their room to start the debate. But since there wasn´t enough time, we just introduced ourselves to the class. The second day we started the real debate to search for solutions for internet privacy and bit coin. After almost 4 hours of debating we reached an agreement with the UK and France. The third and final day we voted (each committee) for the best delegation, most funny delegate, most handsome, most tiresome, etc. 3) Resolutions In the general assembly we voted the resolutions for every committee and the resolution for the technical committee passed. 4) Improvements Maybe for next year we should calculate the amount of time so that at the end we don´t have to hurry up.
ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL COMMITTEE-BG MUN In the economic and social committee we were discussing the Free-Trade Agreement between Europe and USA and if economic blockade in rogue countries. I think almost all countries in our committee agree that the free trade agreement mustn’t only be between the USA and European countries. As half of the committee would not be part of this agreement. What was more discussed in the committee was if we should include the ISDS or not. However, as for economic blockage some countries, the powerful and rich ones, didn’t agree with the removal of economic blockage or the use of it only in extreme cases and as the last resource to punish a rogue country. For the first subtopic, several resolutions passed and all of them were really similar, all of them talking about including more countries into this agreement and the removal of the ISDS, but countries, such as, Afghanistan didn’t agree with this. For the second subtopic, only the resolution that Afghanistan wrote passed, and it talked about using other types of methods to punish a rogue country and using military sanctions instead of economic blockade as this affects negatively the citizens. For me, a defect that BG MUN had was that it wasn’t really well organized and it was a bit messy. However I think the idea of making an international modelisation of the UN was a really great idea, and the main goal or purpose was achieved. The next year, if I go I think I should participate more (that is going to be difficult), but in general the experience was great.
alexandra summary of conference of the legal commitee on monday we have only done a lobbying, thas like an unmoderated coucus in global classrooms. When lobbying happens we have to stand up and talk with the different delegates in our commitee in order to make allies and start making a resolution. on tuesday we finished the resolution of prostitution and then we debated it.At the end of the day we started with the vetos resolution. on wendnesday we debated and voted the vetos resolution and then we had a 15 minutes break before we went to the assembly hall so the ambassadors could debate the different resolutions of the different commitees and after that , they gave the diplomas to the best commitee, the best president of commitee...etc. Finally the ceremony ended with music and people dancing.
